Avonlea Town Center is no longer just a concept as approval to move forward with construction was granted with a 9-0 vote in favor of the Peterson Companies project by the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors during the public hearing on May 13. Avonlea Town Center will be a welcome addition to Loudoun County's Route 50 corridor as it will fill the void of retail and entertainment options many residents feel are lacking.
Although its neighbor on the opposite side of Route 50, Dulles Landing, will satisfy the commercial needs by supplying residents with a WalMart, TJ Maxx, Home Goods, Michael's, and Dick's, the Peterson Companies hope to procure tenants similar to those of their other projects, Fairfax Corner and National Harbor included, for Avonlea Town Center.
One of the first companies to sign on to the project is a luxury theater venue, Cinépolis USA. A theater already active in California and Florida, with 11 screens and seating for 748, Cinépolis will anchor the project and is projected to open in 2016. Features of this establishment will include fully reclining leather seats, in-theater waiting service, gourmet meals, and a full bar.
In addition to the theater, plans for Avonlea Town Center include a 32,000-square-foot health club along with 122,500 square feet of retail space.
The biggest conversation, however, has been over which grocery chain will occupy the 40,000-square-foot space in Avonlea Town Center! Take our poll or chime in below to offer your suggestion on which store the Peterson Companies should pursue!
